Updates

The store will be closed Thursday, but we'll be open Friday and Saturday so you can have a quiet, calm place to shop after the Black Friday madness!

We're asked numerous times on a daily basis if we purchase books, and the answer is, and always has been, no. We are SO overstocked with books that have been traded in, that if we were to purchase books we'd need a whole new Tardis to store them! We thank you for thinking of us, but, again, the a...

Our month-long 'buy 5 hardbacks, get the 6th free' sale is still going strong! And remember, for every $2.00 you spend, you get a free book off of our overflowing overstock shelf. It's a great way to try new-to-you authors!

The store is closed until noon tomorrow, and when we open, it begins a month of 'buy 5 hardcovers, get the 6th for free'!!

This house is quite deceptive; looks small, but it's not! LOADED with books, and more rooms that you thought! Come on by and see what's in stock! We really, really appreciate masks being worn, btw. :)

On the left are the westerns, and on the right, the beginning of the novels. Watch out for the feet on the bookcase to the right! We can't help it; those shelves have been here since the beginning, and they weigh a ton. Ask, though, if you are searching for a particular author or book - believe m...

Saturday's are #HardcoverSaturday here at the store. Every hardback is only $2.50, regardless of the original price. And we have a LOT of hardcovers! Come on by from 10-5, and don't forget that for every $2.00 you spend, you get a free book off our overstock shelf, too. It's a total win/win!

The State Fair has begun, and after you've had your fill of rides and good, come on by the local bookstores and browse for a bit! Albuquerque has some fantastic indie stores!! We're open from 10-6 Tues-Sat, and we do prefer that you wear a mask, but we can't require it. Thank you very much if you...

Testimonials

I have been in many used book stores between Tennessee and Albuquerque and this is BY FAR the best organized and friendliest. I wish I had access to one like this in Tennessee. For anyone who loves to read and can't afford to spend a lot of money on books, this is the way to go. And an e-reader will never replace a real book! 10 stars for this store!

This place is much larger than you'd initially think walking in! The person working the counter (the owner?) was friendly and chatted with us briefly. Romance and general fiction were by far the most dominant genres available, and the sci-fi was a little thin. The owner has some genres sorted into subcategories, I spotted vampires, werewolves, and cozy mysteries (including craft-themed!). There is also a shelf of free overstock books to select from.

About us

We are a hidden gem of a shop, with a warren of rooms filled to the brim with a gamut of genres, including a Y/A and children's section. We specialize in all types of mysteries and romance novels, and we also carry hard-to-find older westerns and military fiction, as well as Harlequin and Silhouette romance series.

If you don't find that particular book you are searching for, Dorothy will be happy to order it for you if it's available. The prices are unbeatable and the service exceptional.

We always have Leanin' Tree greeting cards in stock, and sometimes additional book related gifts. The shop is also dog friendly store: stop in and say Hi to Mighty Max!

Check out the store's Linktree for our social media links and more!

Menaul Book Exchange is located at 9409 Menaul Blvd NE, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The store began its journey on Eubank, just north of Constitution, and soon moved to a converted house on Menaul in the mid-1970's. We are one of the two oldest bookstores in Albuquerque.

Called "Eubank Books" when it opened, the name became the Menaul Book Exchange when it moved.

It has been independently owned and operated by women since it opened, and the current owner, Dorothy, has led the charge since 1998.
